The Diet of Ball Pythons

Ball pythons are known scientifically as python regius. Bull pythons are also know as royal pythons and regal phythons. They are fairly easy to maintain, and do not have bad tempers.

  1. Features

    • Ball pythons are naturally found in western and central Africa. They are most active at dawn and dust. When finding a cage it is important that you pick one that can be well maintained and kept at a sufficient temperature.

    Diet

    • Ball pythons are carnivores and kill their prey by restricting it. Young ball pythons should be fed baby mice, while adult ball pythons should be fed full size mice, rats and young chickens.

    Warning

    • It is important that pet ball pythons are fed thawed out food. The mice, rats, or young chickens should also be dead before fed to the python because they can cause serious wounds that become easily infected.

    Considerations

    • After feeding a ball python it is important that cage be kept at a temperature that is sufficient for digestion. This will usually be at about 100 degrees F.

    Time Frame

    • How often a ball python should be fed depends on its age size, and activity level. Young ball pythons should be fed once or twice a week, while older ones should be fed once every one or two weeks.
