What Is a CPO Jacket?

CPO stands for Chief Petty Officer, which is a rank in the United States Navy. A CPO jacket is a Navy inspired vintage jacket that was popular back in the 1960s and 1970s. Since then it has re-emerged on the market as a trendy type of coat.

Style

The jackets are cut in a shirt style, giving them a more casual look. They usually have two chest pockets, are fleece or quilt lined and made of heavy fabrics like wool. Various types of plaid remain a popular pattern. Standard Navy blue is also an option.

Purpose

The jackets are suitable to wear in cooler temperatures, but can be layered with sweatshirts and or sweaters to provide extra warmth during colder temperatures.

The jury is still out on whether the coats were actually worn by Navy personnel during any of the earlier war times.
