Honey Badger Facts

The honey badger is a ferocious mammal that lives throughout Africa, India and the Middle East. They are small, back animals with a grey or white stripe running down their backs. Honey badgers should be give a wide berth because they will attack anything that threatens them, regardless of size.

Name

Honey badgers are so named because they will attack bee hives and eat the honey inside.

Classification

The scientific name of the honey badger is "Mellivora capensis." They are not classified in the same family as other badgers because they are related more closely to weasels.

Defense

The honey badger's skin is loose, allowing the animal to twist and turn to defend itself if bitten by another animal.

Toughness

According to Debrain.net, a honey badger can survive a dose of snake venom large enough to kill an elephant.

Hunting

Honey badgers are nocturnal animals that hunt their prey at night. They will eat birds, fish, amphibians and honey, as well as small mammals and reptiles.
