Barbeque Grill Safety
Because they are used so often, it is easy to become comfortable around a barbecue grill and stop taking safety precautions. Grills can cause fires and serious injury if used improperly. These safety precautions should always be followed when using a grill.

The Great Outdoors
-
Barbecue grills are designed for outdoor use only. Grills are not designed to be used in garages, tents or other enclosed spaces, even if they are well ventilated.
Hoses
-
Grill hoses should be checked for cracks, holes and other leaks before barbecuing. This is especially important during the grill's first use after winter.
Gas Containers
-
Spare gas tanks are best stored outside, but not close to the grill. Gas containers are meant to be stored upright and should never be laid on their sides.
Location
-
The New York City Fire Department recommends using barbecue grills at east 10 feet away from buildings and trees.
Burns

To avoid the potential for serious burns, a grill should never be moved when it is hot. Utensils with long handles are also an important safety tool for avoiding burns.
