Labrador retrievers, also known as labs, are a popular breed of sporting dog. Labrador retrievers come in three colors: golden, chocolate, and black.

    • Labrador retrievers originated in Newfoundland and were originally used to help fisherman.

    Size

    • Labrador retrievers measure approximately 21.5 to 24.5 inches high and generally weigh from 55 to 80 pounds. Some males can reach a weight of over 100 pounds.

    Temperament

    • Labrador retrievers are considered gentle, loyal, friendly, and patient, making them very popular pets, especially for families with children.

    Exercise

    • Labrador retrievers require daily exercise, such as a long walk.

    Life Expectancy

    • Labrador retrievers live approximately 10 to 12 years.

    Function

    • Labrador retrievers are used in military and police work, as rescue dogs, as guide dogs for blind people, and as pets.
