Oxygen Ozone Cancer Treatment

Chemotherapy, radiation therapy and other conventional treatments for cancer often cause debilitating side effects. For that reason, cancer patients have sought for alternative treatments, such as oxygen or ozone.

  1. History

    • The medicinal use of oxygen and ozone dates to the 1800s, but their use as a cancer treatment dates to the early twentieth century. In 1919, Dr. William Koch claimed he had developed glyoxylide, a compound that, in theory, would help the body rid itself of cancer.

    Function

    • Oxygen-releasing compounds, and especially ozone, are toxic in the body. Thus, the major function of oxygen and ozone treatments is to poison cancer cells.

    Administration

    • Oxygen or ozone treatments differ in how they're administered. For example, a doctor can introduce these dissolved gases through a body opening or inject them with a syringe.

    Treatment Time

    • Treatment times vary widely. Depending on your doctor, your ozone or oxygen treatment could occur as often as three times a day or as little as once per week.

    Warning

    • Current research has not validated the effectiveness of oxygen and ozone treatments, nor their safety. In fact, doctors have reported serious side effects from oxygen and ozone treatments and even death.

    Expert Insight

    • The American Cancer Society upholds patients' rights to choose their own cancer treatments. Nonetheless, they urge you to discuss all available treatments with your doctor.
