DVD Burner Vs. CD Burner

DVD and CD burners may both be used to store digital data, but for high quality video storage a DVD burner should be used. CD burners cannot burn playable movies, but can burn playable music.

PC Burners

Nearly all computers come with disc burners, but not all of them are compatible with DVD burning. DVD burners can burn larger files (4-8 GB), like movies, whereas CD burners can only handle discs with storage space up to 700MB.

External CD Burners

Some CD copiers don't require the use of a computer, but can be used on external burning devices. This is preferred for people who often make multiple CD copies.

TV DVD Burners

Similar to how VCRs could record live television images that could be played back later, there are DVD burners that will record images onto discs that can be watched on other DVD playing devices.

Costs

DVD burners are always more expensive than CD burners because they burn onto discs with more storage space.

Blank Discs

An important detail to keep in mind is the discs used to burn either a DVD or CD. If you have a DVD burner of any kind and want to record digital video, you must use a DVD-R or DVD+R. And if you want to burn music onto a disc, you may be able to use a DVD burner, but you should use a blank CD-R or CD-RW disc.
