Spleen & Shoulder Pain

The spleen is an important organ of the body that helps fight infection. A person might be completely unaware of a disorder in his spleen until symptoms such as shoulder pain present.

  1. Enlargement

    • When the spleen becomes infected, it can become enlarged and result in various symptoms, including pain on the left side of the abdomen and left shoulder, a full feeling in spite of a lack of food, anemia and fatigue. There also can be no symptoms.

    Abdomen

    • An enlarged spleen can cause abdominal pain that can spread to the shoulder.

    Breathing

    • Pain in the abdomen and shoulder that is a result of an enlarged spleen worsens when a deep breath is taken.

    Left Side

    • Shoulder pain that results from an enlarged spleen always occurs on the left side, since the spleen rests on the left side of the body.

    Seriousness

    • Pain in the left shoulder is not necessarily serious, but it is a symptom that indicates that there might be something wrong with the spleen and should be examined.
