Many cats suffer from hairballs and constipation. Symptoms of hairballs and constipation include an upset stomach or the inability to hold down food.

    Causes of Hairballs

    • Cats can cough up hairballs when they swallow loose hair, usually after grooming themselves. The hair may accumulate in the stomach or small intestine, which causes the cat to vomit the remains.

    Constipation

    • Constipation is when bowel movements become difficult or less frequent. It is important to contact your veterinarian if you notice your cat is suffering from constipation. A blockage may be present, which can result in death if it is not treated.

    • Common causes of constipation in cats include obesity, dehydration, low fiber diets or hairballs due to excessive grooming.
