About Belleek Porcelain

Located in County Fermanagh in the Northern Ireland, United Kingdom, Belleek Pottery has produced porcelain since 1858. The company takes its name from the village of Belleek, the location of its original production plant.

History

When John Caldwell Bloomfield inherited his father's estate in 1849, the geologist discovered that the land contained many of the raw materials needed to make porcelain like feldspar and flint. By 1865, Belleek had customers in Ireland, England, the United States, Canada and Australia.

Types of Products

Belleek's porcelain includes dinnerware, tea pots, lamps, figurines, picture frames, vases and ornamental pieces like jewelry boxes and bells.

Features

Belleek's produces many lines of porcelain, many of which feature hand-painted shamrock patterns, such as the Shamrock Trellis, Nadine and Dalriada lines. Belleek also makes a line of porcelain that carries the Irish claddagh symbol, which signifies love.

Cost

As of December 2009, Belleek sold a few of its plain white dinnerware and ornamental porcelain for less than $50. The majority of its new pieces sell for between $50 and $150.

Belleek also produces silver jewelry, crystal glasses and silverware. Its products are available from specialty gift retailers and online.
