Call Center Sales Rep Job Description
Call centers are typically large rooms filled with cubicles, each of which contains a phone and computer. The purpose of a call center is to make or receive a large number of calls, and in some cases, these calls are handled by call center sales reps.
-
Function
-
A call center sales representative is responsible for telling prospective customers about the benefits of a product or service over the telephone in an attempt to sell the product. When they make sales, reps gather billing and other customer information and often process the sale using customers' credit cards.
Types
-
Some call center sales representatives take inbound calls from people who see advertisements for a product or service and call toll-free numbers. Other reps place calls, either to people who have requested information or used a product in the past or to people who may have never heard of the product at all.
-
Features
-
Because call center sales reps often have goals for how many products they sell or how much money their sales generate, their work has the potential to be stressful. In addition, people are often rude to reps who make calls, which can make the work of call center sales representatives unpleasant.
Education
-
While there is no specific education required for work as a call center sales rep, most employers prefer applicants with a high school diploma or GED. Most companies provide on-the-job training for new employees.
Compensation
-
As of December 2009, call center sales reps earned average annual salaries of approximately $31,000, according to Indeed.com.
