Sacrifice Vs. Compromise
Sacrifice happens when you practice delayed gratification for the good of the other person. A husband may sacrifice a night out with his friends at the bar to celebrate his anniversary with his wife. Compromise is putting aside your differences to achieve a common goal.

Benefits of Sacrifice
-
When you sacrifice something you want for the benefit of the other person, the relationship improves. For example, if your younger brother wants you to take him to a new movie but you want to go to the mall, you show your brother how much you value him by going to the movie.
Benefits of Compromise
-
When you compromise on non-essential issues with others, it reduces stress and allows you to complete necessary tasks. Suppose you and a coworker disagree on how to advertise a company's new line of boxed chocolates. You may agree to promote the chocolates by taking them to local stores and conducting in-store demonstrations, while your coworker may use local public access television to promote them.

Disadvantages of Sacrifice
-
Sometimes sacrifice can be used in a negative way. When a celebrity sacrifices his integrity, family and friends for the benefits of fame, there may be negative consequences. For example, if he is involved in a public sex scandal, this could cause the end of his marriage.
Disadvantages of Compromise
-
In some cases, compromise is negative. For example, if a person tries to compromise so much in a relationship that he loses his identity and self-worth, the relationship may deteriorate because he won't be happy.
Interrelation of Compromise and Sacrifice
-
There will be times when compromise and sacrifice overlap. For example, a mother sacrifices her own desires for material goods in order to satisfy her children's wants; the children compromise on their long birthday lists so the mother can stick to her spending budget.
