Bazooka is the name brand of a chewing gum specially designed for blowing bubbles. Remaining virtually unchanged for over 50 years, Bazooka chewing gum has become a part of American culture.

Manufacturer

Bazooka chewing gum is produced by the Topps Company, which also produces baseball trading cards, Baby Bottle Pops and Ring Pops. The Topps Company was established in 1938, producing a penny gum called "Topps Gum."

History

Topps started producing Bazooka chewing gum in its Brooklyn, New York, plant at the end of World War II. The packaging included a red, white and blue color scheme that gave the gum a patriotic flair.

Name

Bazooka bubble gum was named for a musical instrument that Bob Burns, an entertainer, put together in the 1930s. Burns created his bazooka instrument using just a funnel and two gas pipes.

Types

Bazooka chewing gum comes in various flavors, including Original, Strawberry Shake and Grape. Topps also produces Sugarless Bazooka and Bazooka Blasts, designed to give chewers a stronger, longer-lasting bubble gum.

Fun Facts

Bazooka chewing gum introduced its Bazooka Joe comics back in 1953. Topps has created over 700 of these miniature comic strips since that time.
