Federal College Grant Eligiblity Guidelines

Federal college grants can pay significant portions of your tuition, books or living expenses if you are eligible. Visit your school's financial aid office for in-depth information on awards and application processes.

FAFSA

All students must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid to be eligible for federal grants. Students will need their parents' tax information, as well as their own, from the previous year to complete the application.

Financial Need

Financial need determines eligibility for most grants. Need is calculated by subtracting the expected family contribution (you will be informed of this number after completing the FAFSA) from the cost of attendance at your school.

Pell Grant

The Pell Grant is the most popular need-based grant and provides up to $5,350 per year. Students must be eligible for a Pell Grant to be considered for any other federal grants, except the TEACH grant.

TEACH

The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant provides up to $4,000 per year for students interested in becoming teachers. Undergraduate students must sign A TEACH Agreement to Serve to qualify.

ACG

The Academic Competitiveness Grant provides up to $1,300 per year for undergraduate students who have at least a 3.0 GPA and have completed a rigorous high school program of study.
