What Does a Golf Caddie Wear?

Caddies are employed in country club settings, and those clubs demand that caddies abide by their dress code and be a good representative of the club. If a caddie is working professionally, he not only must abide by the rules of the club but also present himself in a way that will reflect favorably on the player whose bag he is carrying.

Shirt

A shirt with a collar must be worn. Private clubs may require that caddies wear a polo shirt with the club's emblem on it or a bib worn over their shirt that displays the club's name. This bib will contain the player's name if it is a professional tournament.

Shoes

Tennis shoes are acceptable. Golf shoes are also allowed, but they must have soft spikes.

Pants

Khaki shorts are permissible at some courses. However, the majority of private courses require that caddies wear slacks or khaki pants.

Accessories

A towel needs to be in your bag in order to clean the club after a shot or wipe dirt from the ball.

Hats

Hats are a good idea to protect against the sun. They must face forward at all times.

Other considerations

The caddies who make the largest tips are those who consider all scenarios for the round. Carry an umbrella in case of a sudden rainstorm and a water bottle for your golfer in case of a hot, humid day.
