I'm a hungry frog!

There are two ways to feed your frog or toad: supply it with live food or purchase fortified, nutritious, prepared foods that are essential to your reptile's health and development.

  1. Live Foods

    • Frogs and toads are most attracted to food that moves. They are carnivores, so this is natural. Live food can always be purchased from your local pet store. Crickets, mealworms, and insects are staple foods. Larger frogs even dine happily on small mice.

    Pellet Foods

    • A healthy alternative to live food is pellet food. These pellets are fortified with things like calcium, Vitamin C, krill (tiny crustaceans), beta carotene, essential oils, and other vitamins. They are soft and easily digestible for your pet.

    Balancing the Diet

    • It is recommended that you control your frog or toad's diet so that it continues to receive the balanced intake it requires to stay healthy and strong. You should provide live food regularly, while substituting prepared or retorted foods every few meals.

    Where to Buy

    • Start by calling your local pet store. They should have what you need. Some popular brands of prepared reptile food include Zoo Med, Tetra ReptoMin, and HBH. You can also look on the Internet. These sites have great selections: www.westcoastpetsupply.com, www.amazon.com, and www.nextag.com.

    Warnings

    • Do not attempt to feed your frogs dead insects or animals, as in the majority of cases the frogs will starve rather than eat carrion.,
