Why Are Citrus Fruits Bad for Acne?
It's difficult to absolutely link certain food groups to acne because reactions are so individual. However, certain types of citrus foods do appear to increase acne. One theory suggests the high acid content in certain fruits creates an imbalance in the body's pH levels; other theories exist too.

Causes
-
Fruit sugars may cause similar reactions to chocolate and other simple carbs. According to Felicia Dennis, a physicians assistant at the Atlanta Center for Dermatologic Diseases, the high concentration of simple carbohydrates in certain citrus foods may worsen acne. This is why sometimes patients can have breakouts from eating too much chocolate and white bread as well.
Effects
-
Many fruits contain simple carbs. Simple carbohydrates can cause the blood sugar to elevate, which increases oil production and clogs pores.

Recommendations
-
Carrots don't contain much acid. If you want to prevent or minimize acne breakouts stick to low alkaline/low carb foods like carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, grapes and apples.
Caution
-
Avoid nuts too if fruit causes breakouts. Other foods to avoid include lentils, beans, oatmeal, butter, nuts, beef, pork, coffee and soft drinks.
Good Citrus
-
Oranges are okay for acne-prone skin. Acceptable citrus fruits include oranges, lemons, strawberries and pineapples; this is because the specific citric acid they contain has an alkalizing effect on your body that reduces, not increases, acidity.
