Commercial interior designers design office buildings.

A commercial interior designer creates and designs the interiors of commercial properties, such as office buildings, hotels, schools and industrial facilities. Finding employment with architectural firms, furniture retailers or as independent consultants, these individuals provide a wide range of duties over the course of each project.

  1. Client Consultation

    • Prior to accepting an assignment, a commercial interior designer meets with a prospective client to gain an understanding of the scope of a project. This is done to ensure that the designer is a match for the project.

    Plan Estimates

    • Once a commercial interior designer has accepted an engagement, an initial design concept is created along with a budget estimate which is submitted to the client for approval.

    Material Sourcing

    • Partnering with various furniture and fabric retailers, art galleries and hardware manufacturer, the commercial interior designer sources various building materials, submitting a final design plan to a construction inspector to ensure that the concept complies with building codes.

    Project Management

    • A commercial interior designer oversees the entire building process, working closely with the general contractor to ensure that all deadlines are adhered to.

    Client Service

    • Through the design and construction process, the commercial interior designer liaises with clients, ensuring that all updates and/or changes are communicated.
