    • Lag screws are generally larger than normal wood screws and they typically have a hexagonal drive head.

    Types

    • Lag screws are available in lengths up to 18 inches and with diameters from 1/4 to 1/2 inch.

    Use

    • Typically you should drive a lag screw with a wrench, and, if you're drilling into masonry or concrete, you should anchor it with a lag shield. When using long lag screws, drill a thinner pilot hole first.
