At 12 weeks gestation, a fetus is about the size of a small fruit and is beginning to look more like a human. Its face is well formed. Its eyes are in the front of the head and its ears are on the sides.

The baby has grown to 2 ½ inches in length and weighs about ½ oz.
Movement

A baby can move at this stage and if a mother pushes on her stomach, the baby will react. However, the mother would not feel the baby move. At 12 weeks, a baby's mouth will begin making a sucking action.

The arms and legs are formed and are long and slender at this stage. A fetus can make a fist with its fingers.

Nerve cells and synapses are forming in the brain. The kidneys will expel urine into the bladder.
