Cowgirl Hat Etiquette
Women wear cowgirl hats for a variety of reasons, such as a sign of strength; to show they're hard working or, conversely, enjoy having fun; or simply as a fashion accessory. Whatever your reason for wearing a cowgirl hat, you should practice proper etiquette. These guidelines are the same for both cowgirls and cowboys. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Tipping
-
Tip your hat to someone when you say hello to them, when someone thanks you, after getting directions or when you are excusing yourself.
Indoors
-
Hats can be worn in someone's home, but some cowgirls and cowboys prefer to remove them upon entering. However, you should take your hat off upon entering a public building, unless it is a public transportation building or a hotel. Hats should be removed in crowded elevators.
-
Conversation
-
Take off your hat when a conversation gets serious, when you are being introduced and when saying goodbye.
National Anthem
-
Hats should be removed during the National Anthem and when your country's flag is raised or passed. This is probably the most important cowgirl and cowboy hat rule.
Funerals
-
Hats should be removed upon entering a funeral home. They can be worn again on the way to the burial site, but should be removed a second time upon walking into the vicinity of the burial location and during the funeral.
Weddings
-
Hats should be removed during speeches and during the ceremony. However, it is OK to wear your hat during the reception.
