The Home Energy Assistance Program helps families across the country pay for their utility bills. It can help you pay for your gas, electric, coal, propane, wood or kerosene.

Regular Benefit

The regular benefit is available any time after November 2 of each year. You must qualify under the income guidelines for your state. If you are already receiving assistance such as food stamps or Medicaid, you will automatically receive a HEAP benefit. As of 2009, income guidelines in New York State were $3.903 per month for a family of four.
Emergency Benefit

The emergency home energy assistance plan is to prevent impending danger such as utility disconnection or running out of fuel. This program is in addition to the regular benefits. The income guidelines are the same as the regular benefits program.
Heating Repair

The heating repair program provides money to fix your furnace or other equipment necessary for operation of your heating system.
