Job Description for a Quality-Control Lab Technician

A quality control lab technician works in a laboratory environment, performing tests on products manufactured by an organization to ensure quality standards for the products are met.

  1. Educational Requirements

    • These occupations require a bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the products manufactured. Manufacturing areas such as engineering, chemistry, clinical or pharmaceutical industries will require specific educational requirements related to the manufacturing environment.

    Responsibilities

    • Performing tests in a laboratory environment can include analysis, assembling and disassembling, and attempting destruction or chemical variations of products to ensure quality. Results are then reported to help improve manufacturing processes.

    Other Duties

    • Because these professionals are involved with finding errors in products, they often assist manufacturing and design teams to improve product design.

    Outlook

    • The Bureau of Labor Statistics projected job growth of more than 10 percent from 2006 through 2016 in almost all related disciplines due to technology advancements and the ability to perform new tests to ensure product quality are met.
