About Glue Chip Glass
Glue chip glass is a decorative glass created through a process involving the application of hot glue to the glass surface. When the glue dries, it chips the glass, creating a textured surface similar to a frosted effect.

Facts
-
In the glue-chipping process, the glue-to-water ratio creates the pattern upon the glass surface. The standard recipe calls for a 2:1 ratio, with two parts water for one part glue. And, you should use only animal-hide glue or specific glass-chipping glue
Function
-
As it dries, the hot glue contracts and grips the glass surface. Heating the glass with a space heater or, even, sunlight causes the dried glue to pop and crack, leaving behind chipped glass.
-
Considerations
-
Before chipping, rough the glass surface, which allows the glue to grip the glass. The preferred method is sandblasting.
Use
-
You can glue chip clear, colored or flashed glass, including such items as windows, bottles, jars, signs or, even, mirrors.
Warning
-
Heating the glass too much causes it to crack. Also, the cracking glue can chip off with considerable force, so always wear protective goggles. Always handle the glass with caution during the entire process, and be careful around glass shards.
