Employee review

Employee reviews are designed to inform the employee of how well he is performing on the job. It is appropriate and preferred to give a copy of the review to the employee.

  1. Gathering Examples

    • Employee reviews include input from managers, peers, customers and, as applicable, subordinates, providing the employee with a comprehensive view of his performance.

    Employee Input

    • The employee should provide input into his performance. This provides him the opportunity to give insight into the strengths and weaknesses that defined his overall performance.

    Development

    • Employee reviews often include plans for continued development. When the employee has a copy of the review, he can create a plan to address performance weaknesses.

    Merit Increases

    • The employee review provides a basis for merit increases. Give the employee a copy of the review so he will understand why he did or did not receive the merit pay increase.

    Legal

    • If any legal issues arise between the employee and the company, a signed copy of the employee review, given to the employee, shows acknowledgment of the review comments, and that the performance review discussion occurred.
