Why Does My iPod Say Do Not Disconnect?
Your iPod says "Do Not Disconnect" to prevent you from causing damage to it or your computer's hard disk. You should only disconnect your iPod at specified times using the proper ejection method.
-
Significance
-
Disconnecting your iPod when it says "Do Not Disconnect" can damage your iPod or hard drive, according to Apple Support. You can also lose files you were attempting to add to your iPod in the process.
Considerations
-
You can safely disconnect your iPod when your computer screen says "Charging" or "Ok to disconnect." On an iPod Shuffle, you can disconnect when the LED is a solid amber or green. Don't disconnect if your computer says "Do not disconnect" or "Sync in Progress, Please wait..." or when your iPod Shuffle LED is blinking.
-
Exceptions
-
The disconnect screens do not appear on a computer in sleep mode or when an iPod is connected to the Apple iPod Power Adapter. Make sure your computer is off sleep mode before disconnecting. You can disconnect an iPod connected to a power adapter at any time.
Ejection
-
You need to properly eject the iPod before attempting to disconnect it. Click on the "Eject" icon next to your iPod in the source pane or select "Eject" from the Controls menu.
Synching
-
Your iPod should automatically disconnect after syncing with a computer.
