The tulsi plant is an aromatic shrub that thrives in temperate climates, considered similar to cloves because of its slightly spicy aroma.     • According to HorizonHerbs.com, tulsi is used traditionally to alleviate stress, high blood pressure, and as a protective agent against cancer. In Ayurvedic medicine it also used to cure colds, headaches, stomach problems and heart problems, although no studies prove it actually helps with these ailments.

    Nutrition

    • Tulsi contains flavanoids, tannins, and traces of zinc, manganese and sodium. According to Drugs.com, it also contains vitamin A and C.

    Appearance

    • Tulsi looks similar to basil but has hairier, pale-colored leaves with purple or red flowers. The leaves measure three to seven centimeters long.

    Types

    • The three most common types of tulsi include Rama tulsi, Krishna tulsi and Vana tulsi.

    • The tulsi plant is also called tulasi. In English it is known as holy basil.
