Food for Digestive Problems

If you have a digestive problem, there are ways to tailor your diet to relieve your symptoms. Foods that are difficult to digest will slow the healing of digestive problems. Raw, organic foods are ideal because they provide the enzymes needed to digest them.

  1. Fiber

    • Both types of fiber are important for digestive health. Soluble fiber absorbs toxins; insoluble fiber sweeps the colon. Flax is 50 percent soluble and 50 percent insoluble fiber.

    Essential Fatty Acids

    • Essential fatty acids are important for digestive tract health. Fish and flax seed oils are sources of omega-3 essential fatty acids.

    Juice

    • Drink four glasses of fresh juice daily, along with four 8 oz. glasses of water. Cucumber, kale, cabbage, spinach, beet and carrot juices are good for the digestive system.

    Anti-Candida Diet

    • Poor digestion can lead to Candida yeast overgrowth which further impairs digestion. A diet helpful for yeast overgrowth includes low-starch vegetables (leafy greens), small amounts of Lima beans, peas and potatoes, no sugar or artificial sweeteners and avoidance of fruit juices except lemons and Granny Smith apples.

    Safe Foods

    • Safe foods for digestive problems include eggs, hot air popcorn, plain yogurt, raw almond butter, gluten- and yeast-free breads, green vegetable juices, nuts and seeds.
