What Is a Reception Card in the Wedding?
One of the many inserts you may come across when selecting your wedding invitations is the reception card. Brides on a budget or those planning an informal wedding may find that these are not necessary as they can add the information elsewhere in the invitation packet. For those brides who are having a formal affair, the reception card is a common way to include reception information following the invitation to the ceremony.
-
Purpose
-
Reception cards are included to inform guests of the reception location when it is different from the ceremony site or not immediately following the ceremony.
Format
-
The reception cards are generally rectangular in size and less than half the size of the invitation. They follow the style, color and formality of the actual invitation.
-
Content
-
Include general information, such as the type of reception (dinner or cocktails), the name and address of the reception site and the time, on the reception cards. Some brides may also choose to add whether it is adult only or black tie.

Cost
-
The cost of the reception cards is often small compared to the overall cost of the invitation packet. However, depending on the number of cards needed, the type of ink, card stock and design used on the stationary, the cost can be significant. Do-it-yourself brides may only have the cost of supplies to make the cards whereas brides with large budgets and guest lists may pay a couple hundred dollars for these invitation inserts.
