Organizational Structure of Essays

Writing essays is an important part of every student's life, and organizing and structuring the essay is an essential part of the writing process. Understanding and conceiving a basic organization and structure for an essay can help you arrange your thoughts in a clear, logical manner.

Introduction

The introduction should present the ideas you are going to discuss as well as the overall point you will make. This should be done briefly and simply.

Least Important

Start the essay with your least important information. This can be a minor point that you want to make, or it can be counter-evidence that's presented to provide balance but is disproved by the rest of the essay.

Next Important

Arrange your ideas according to their importance and relationship with one another. You can add as many ideas as you like in your essay, but always arrange them from least important to most important.

Most Important

State your most important point and provide evidence for it. The whole essay should revolve around this point, so have lots of evidence backing it up.

Conclusion

Your essay should end with a brief section discussing the importance and relevance of the overall point you have made.
