Job Description of a Software & Hardware Engineer

Hardware refers to the parts of a computer that can be seen or touched, such as the monitor or the internal parts. Software is the term given to the programs or applications a computer runs. Computer engineers are the professionals for designing hardware and software.

    • The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts the demand for hardware engineers will increase by 5 percent through 2016, resulting in the creation of 3,600 jobs. It estimates 38 percent growth for software engineers, creating 324,000 jobs through 2016.
