Inflammatory Skin Disorder

Inflammatory skin disorder is not one particular disease. It is the common term used when referring to various conditions and diseases affecting the skin. These skin ailments can be as harmless as a mild case of diaper rash or as severe as a case of pyoderma gangrenosum.

  1. Rosacea

    • Rosacea is an inflammatory skin disease that is often referred to as "adult acne." This disease causes redness and bumps on the face. Visible facial blood vessels and watery eyes are also symptoms of the disease.

    Eczema

    • Also known as dermatitis, eczema is believed to be triggered by environmental allergens as well as by substances that come into contact with the skin. A definite cause for eczema is unknown, but it is believed to be caused by an abnormal function of the immune system. Dry, itchy skin with oozing lesions and blisters are some of the symptoms associated with this disorder.

    Pyoderma Gangrenosum

    • Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare disease that may effect the eyes, liver, and heart among other organs. It is usually associated with autoimmune diseases. Skin will have painful red or purple bumps and ulcers. This disease is treatable, but may recur.

    Sebaceous Cysts

    • Sebaceous cysts are small bumps that develop beneath the skin layers. These cysts may appear on any part of the body, but are more common on the face, neck, or genital areas.

    Psoriasis

    • Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the skin and is often associated with other serious health issues. Symptoms of psoriasis include red patches and silver or pink scales. Pain, inflammation, and puss-filled blisters are also common.
