What Is the Difference Between Juvederm & Evolence?
Juvederm and Evolence are injectable dermal fillers used as cosmetic anti-aging solutions. While they share similar purposes and functions, there are differences. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Origins
-
Juvederm was developed and manufactured by U.S.-based company Allergan, Inc. It received FDA approval as a safe and effective dermal filler in 2006. Evolence was developed in Israel, and received FDA approval in June of 2008.
Composition
-
Juvederm is a gel filler composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural sugar found in human skin. Evolence is composed of porcine collagen, which, unlike other collagen fillers, is more similar to natural human collagen, since pig DNA is close to human DNA.
-
Uses
-
Evolence can be injected more deeply into the skin than Juvederm and can, therefore, correct deeper wrinkles. Also, as of late 2009, Evolence, unlike Juvederm, has not been approved for lip-plumping.
Body Absorption
-
Hyaluronic acid-based fillers, like Juvederm, dissolve and are absorbed by the body. Evolence's pig collagen integrates itself with the skin's natural collagen, since the composition is so similar.
Side Effects
-
Evolence injections involve little to no swelling and bruising as side effects. With Juvederm, these side effects are typical. Hyaluronic acid absorbs water, therefore more swelling occurs with Juvederm.
