Wild roses are somewhat rare these days, and are mostly found on abandoned properties. You can add beauty to your wildflower meadow and attract birds by planting your own wild rose plants. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Size

    • Wild rose plants generally range from 2 to 6 feet tall and around a foot in diameter, according to MacPhailWoods.org.

    Leaves

    • A wild rose plant, like a domestic rose plant, will lose its flowers and leaves in the fall. Much like a tree, it will remain barren until spring.

    Location

    • Wild rose plants should be planted in an area that will not be mowed, according to American Meadows. A location near a fence would be an excellent location for wild roses.

    Hardiness

    • Wild rose plants are very hardy and self-sufficient. They need little care and will produce blooms year after year.

    Bark

    • The bark of wild rose plants is green when the plant is young. It then turns to red and finally brown as the plant ages.

    Flowers

    • Flowers may come in a variety of colors but are usually pink. They will normally bloom each year from May through August.
