Is Rebate Processing a Legitimate At-Home Job?

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has received hundreds of nationwide complaints from people who have been scammed by companies offering rebate processing jobs. In response to these complaints, the BBB has issued a warning to consumers stating that rebate processing is not a legitimate at-home job.

  1. The Claims

    • Rebate processing job offers typically require an upfront fee, ranging from $40 to over $500, and tell people that they can earn hundreds, and even thousands, of dollars a day.

    The Victims

    • Victims of rebate processing scams have reported never making any money, not receiving the promised rebate processing starter kits, and having their credit cards or checking accounts charged $59 every month.

    Spotting a Scam

    • The BBB recommends staying away from work-at-home jobs that make promises of making a lot of money for little work, and that require upfront fees. They also suggest checking the company's free BBB Reliability Report on the BBB website.

    Common Work-at-Home Scams

    • Other common work at home scams include envelope stuffing, craft assembly, medical billing, email processing and more.

    Legitimate At-Home Jobs

    • Legitimate work-at-home jobs do exist, but they can be difficult to find, and even more difficult to get. ABC News recommends work-at-home jobs such as making crafts to sell, virtual assistance, freelancing and tutoring students online.
