QuickTime supports a wide variety of extensions and codecs.

The QuickTime Player, which ships with Mac OS X and is downloadable for Windows users for free from Apple's website, supports a wide variety of file formats and their extensions.

  1. MOV and QT

    • The default QuickTime extensions for the QuickTime movie format are .mov and .qt.

    MP4 and M4V

    • The extensions for videos downloaded from the iTunes store are .mp4 and .m4v. These files are typically encoded with the H.264 codec.

    MP3, WAV, and AAC

    • QuickTime supports the playback of MP3 audio files as well as a variety of common formats used for WAV files, including ULAW, 32-bit integer and floating point, and 64-bit floating point. The AAC MPEG-4 Audio format is also supported.

    DV
