An auto CPAP machine increases the air pressure in the throat so the airway does not collapse when sleeping. The auto CPAP machine is a small box that is connected by a tube to a mask. The mask will either cover your nose and mouth, just your nose, or have prongs that fit into the nose.

Considerations

If you are prescribed an auto CPAP machine you should keep in mind that it may take time for you to get used to the machine. The machine automatically regulates pressure and combined with the mask this may cause some annoyance.

The auto CPAP machine will only be prescribed to those who suffer from moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea. If you have coronary artery disease and are diagnosed with mild obstructive sleep apnea you may be prescribed an auto CPAP machine because obstructive sleep apnea can cause serious complications for those with coronary artery disease.
