Depression

Depression is a mental disorder. Medications are sometimes effective in combating the symptoms of depression. Inderal or propranolol is a beta blocker that can sometimes successfully be used to treat depression.

  1. Effects

    • Inderal blocks a stress hormone called norepinephrine. This helps by controlling some of the anxiety symptoms common to depression such as rapid heart beat, trembling hands, dizziness and sweating.

    Side Effects

    • Inderal has some common side effects including nausea, sleeplessness, light-headedness and low heart rate.

    Avoid Alcohol

    • You should avoid consuming alcohol during inderal treatment. Alcohol increases the effects of propranolol in the body.

    Indications

    • Inderal can be dangerous for individuals who are allergic to propranolol, have asthma or suffer from heart conditions.

    Warnings

    • Consult your doctor before stopping inderal treatment. Your condition may get worse if the drug is stopped abruptly.
