What Are the Causes of Mushrooms Growing in Yard?

Mushrooms can be a source of frustration if you wish to keep your lawn beautiful. Here are several causes for mushroom growth in lawns as well as some ideas to prevent them from growing.

Shade

Mushrooms thrive in the shade, which can be caused by trees or bushes in the yard.

Moisture

Mushrooms love moist lawns. Excess moisture in your lawn can be caused by too much watering or poor drainage.

Decay

Mushrooms feed off of decaying organic matter. Sources of this include old mulch and grass clippings.

Prevention/Solution

To prevent mushrooms from growing in your yard, prune trees that may be causing shade, fix drainage problems and eliminate organic waste.
