Is Sweating Bad for Acne?

One of the biggest misconceptions about sweating is that it causes acne and therefore is bad for acne. The truth is sweating does not result in bad acne. Sweating is a natural way for the body to detoxify and cool itself. It is only when another factor is present with sweating that acne begins to appear or to get worse. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Sweat Identification

    • Sweat is mostly made of water with minerals such as sodium, potassium and chloride that do not affect the pores.

    Friction

    • Sweat can affect acne if the infected area is rubbing against an object, like a backpack or a helmet. It is the friction that causes further irritation.

    Spreading Bacteria

    • People tend to use their hands or their shirt to wipe away sweat, thus passing on many unseen bacteria that can inflame the acne.

    Consideration

    • Sweating, as a natural way of releasing germs and bacteria, can actually be good for the acne as long as it is wiped with a clean towel.

    Treatment

    • Treating acne requires keeping the area clean by using a gentle cleanser. The infected skin also needs to breathe, so it shouldn't be covered up with anything that may cause friction or further irritation, like a hat or makeup.
