The Effects of Damage on Straight Hair Due to Bleaching

Drying and Styling
-
Bleach-damaged hair is extremely difficult to dry and style. The hair holds onto moisture; it is not uncommon for drying times to double when damage is present. Damaged hair lacks elasticity, a characteristic that is essential for bounce and holding style.
Texture
-
Damaged hair has a unique texture. It feels mushy when wet and wiry when dry. Cotton and straw are two words commonly used to describe the feel of hair damaged by bleach.
-
Appearance
-
Straight hair that has been damaged with bleach appears dry and fuzzy. The hair may even appear to be crimped, kinky or curly.
Strength
-
Bleach severely undermines the strength of the hair. Overly damaged hair breaks easily and is not able to withstand the same amount of tension as healthy hair. This is of special consideration when styling.
Effects
-
Future chemical treatments may not be an option for hair that has been damaged with bleach. In most cases, the damage must be cut away before subsequent color treatments can be performed.
