School Nutrition Certification

The national certification program for School Nutrition Specialists keeps school nutrition workers updated on vital nutrition and food safety information. It also strengthens the community's faith in the school's ability to provide sound nutrition to its students.

  1. Preparation

    • A study guide is available for purchase by calling the SNA Emporium at 800-728-0728.

    Prerequisites

    • An Associate's Degree and at least one year of experience working in the school nutrition field within the last five years are required in order to become certified. An additional thirty key-area college credit hours in a related field are necessary. Work experience can be substituted for the key-area hours at the rate of one year for ten credit hours.

    Renewal

    • Certificates are effective through their expiration dates. Reminders are sent three months before the expiration date.

    Fees

    • The applicant is responsible for all fees, including the cost of renewing a certificate.

    Application

    • The Credentialing Exam Handbook contains the exam application, as well as related resources. It can be obtained from the SNA Service Center, or via download at www.schoolnutrition.org.
