Mylanta Maximum Strength is an oral antacid used to relieve heartburn, indigestion, sour stomach and gas. It contains 400mg each of aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide, which neutralize acid. It also contains 40mg of simethicone, which alleviates gas.

This medication can also lower phosphate levels in the body if used for long periods of time, which may result in loss of appetite, fatigue or muscle weakness. Uncommon but serious side effects may include dizziness, fainting, black, tarry stools, slow, shallow breathing, irregular heartbeat, confusion, pain with urination, abdominal pain or vomit that looks like coffee grounds. Seek medical attention immediately if you experience any of these symptoms.
