What Are the Side Effects of Giving Up Soda?

Soda has become a staple of the American diet. Each year more than 15 billion gallons of soda are sold in the United States. Those that choose to remove this tasty treat from their diet may suffer from the following side effects.

  1. Taste Cravings

    • We drink soda because we enjoy the taste. When we remove soda from our diet we miss the taste and will crave it.

    Headaches

    • Headaches are a common side effect when giving up soda, due to the removal of caffeine from our bodies.

    Lack of Energy

    • The sugar and caffeine in soda gives the body a quick energy rush. Many of us drink soda to bring our energy levels up temporarily. Lack of energy is a common complaint when no longer drinking soda.

    Irritability

    • When we are experiencing side effects such as headaches, lack of energy, and taste cravings, we tend to feel irritable and uncomfortable.

    Lack of Concentration

    • Because we lose that adrenaline rush that comes with drinking soda, we initially may feel as though we can't concentrate or focus. This feeling will go away once the body adjusts to the new diet.
