Winsor Pilates Vs. Stott Pilates
Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates during World War I as a form of exercise for himself and bedridden soldiers. Since its creation in the 1900s, Pilates has evolved to include different variations based on the underlying principles Joseph Pilates developed.

History

Moira Merrithew, creator of Stott Pilates, was trained in Pilates by Romana Kryzanowska, a pupil of Joseph Pilates. She later opened the Stott Pilates studio in Toronto in 1987. Stott Pilates has expanded to include teacher training, DVDs and instructional equipment.
Mari Winsor, creator of Winsor Pilates, also studied with Kryzanowska. In 1990, Winsor opened her Pilates studio in Los Angeles. Winsor, who is credited with popularizing Pilates, has produced 30 videos and co-authored three books. She is the top trainer among Hollywood's elite.

Geography

Pilates itself has a worldwide reach. The Stott method originated in Canada but DVDs and training centers are available worldwide. The Winsor method is also widely available, but Mari Winsor does not offer teacher training.

The Winsor method utilizes a unique sequencing Mari developed over 15 years of study and working with clients. The Stott method incorporates exercise science and spinal rehabilitation principles. Stoss says her detailed method is one of the safest Pilates system.
