How Big Will an Oakleaf Hydrangea Get?

  1. Root Area

    • The oakleaf hydrangea grows well in drier soil, but cannot tolerate "wet feet," or soggy roots. Your plant will thus need ample drainage space beneath the roots and should not be planted indoors.

    Height

    • On average, a healthy, mature oakleaf hydrangea will grow to between 3 and 6 feet in height. Some species are larger or smaller than average.

    Width

    • A healthy, mature oakleaf hydrangea will be a bush approximately 3 to 6 feet wide on average

    Blossoms

    • The oakleaf hydrangea blooms in the summertime, sprouting dense white flower heads that average 6 to 12 inches long.

    Species Variations

    • The "Alice" species can grow up to 12 feet in height. The "Pee-Wee" oakleaf is generally much smaller, averaging only 2 to 4 feet in height. The "Snow Queen" is the mid-sized species, between 6 and 10 feet tall, but it is known for its bigger, showier flowers.
