If an individual develops a sinus infection and leaves it untreated, the infection will slowly spread throughout the head into other areas such as the ears, the throat and even the brain. The most common causes of the infection are allergies, the common cold and environmental issues.

A double ear and sinus infection must be treated with prescribed antibiotics to effectively kill off the infection. Taking an over-the-counter decongestant will also be helpful in reducing any swelling associated with the infection.
Prevention

Treat sinus or ear congestion with a decongestant at the first sign. Build the immune system by sleeping at least 8 hours a night, drinking six 8-oz. glasses of water per day and eating a healthy diet rich in whole grains, fruits and vegetables.
Complications

If a double ear and sinus infection goes untreated it can lead to life-threatening issues because it can spread to the chest or the brain. In this rare case a person will have to be hospitalized and treated.
