Can You Drink Milk If You Have Acid Reflux?
Milk is not a common trigger of acid reflux. However, people with acid reflux should avoid high-fat foods, including whole milk and other full-fat dairy products.

Definition
-
Acid reflux (gastroesophageal reflux) occurs when stomach acid rises up the esophagus. This can cause a burning sensation (heartburn) or a foul taste at the back of the mouth.
High-Fat Foods
-
High-fat foods, such as fried foods, stay in the stomach longer, which can trigger acid reflux. Choose low-fat dairy options such as 1 or 2 percent milk or skim milk.
-
Other Foods to Avoid
-
Avoid caffeine, alcohol and peppermint, which can weaken the sphincter that holds acid in the stomach.
Personal Experience
-
Every person with acid reflux has different foods that trigger their symptoms. Even thought low-fat dairy doesn't bother most people, keep track of your symptoms to see if it bothers you.
Treatment
-
Aside from avoiding certain foods, treatment of acid reflux may include eating smaller meals, taking antacids and not lying down after eating. Talk to your doctor about what treatment options are right for you.
