The black walnut (Juglans nigra) is a highly valued, North American hardwood. The species is very sensitive to soil conditions and grows slowly on poor sites. According to Ohio State University, the roots of the black walnut produce a toxin known as juglone (5-hydroxy-alphanapthaquinone). On a mature tree, the radius of toxicity can extend up to 80 feet from the trunk. Does this Spark an idea?
