Celebrex Vs. Mobic

Celebrex is a brand name for the prescription medication celecoxib, while Mobic is a form of meloxicam. Despite the fact that both Celebrex and Mobic are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, there are differences between how these two drugs are used to treat patients.

  1. Function

    • Both Mobic and Celebrex inhibit the production of prostaglandins, chemicals that cause pain and inflammation; however, Celebrex is also shown to slow the replication of colon tumor cells, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

    Use

    • Doctors prescribe both Mobic and Celebrex for the treatment of the pain and inflammation caused by arthritis. In addition, Celebrex is effective for relieving pain from ankylosing spondylitis and severe menstrual cramps and for preventing the return of intestinal polyps, explains the Mayo Clinic.

    Features

    • The amount and timing of the food you eat has no effect upon Mobic; however, doses of Celebrex that exceed 200 mg are more effective when taken with meals, suggests the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

    Dosing

    • Two doses of Celebrex are sometimes necessary per day for the treatment of arthritis, but doctors rarely prescribe more than one daily dose of Mobic, according to the Mayo Clinic.

    Considerations

    • Celebrex is not safe for patients who have a sulfa or sulfonamide allergy or a history of hepatitis, cautions the Mayo Clinic.
